Items We Are Not Equipped to Work On — And Why It Matters for RV Owners

Published on December 9, 2025 at 7:00 AM

One of the most common questions we get at MilTech RV Mobile Repair & Inspection is:
“Do you work on everything an RV might need?”

The honest answer — and the one RV owners appreciate most — is no.
Not because we don’t want to help, but because some repairs simply aren’t safe, legal, or realistic to perform outside of a full-service shop.

As a certified RVTAA / NRVIA mobile technician, here’s a clear breakdown of the repairs we do not take on, and the educational reasons behind each one.

🔧 1. Engine & Chassis Repairs

This includes:

  • Engine diagnostics

  • Transmission issues

  • Brake systems

  • Steering & suspension

  • Axles & major drivetrain work

These systems require heavy lifts, shop tools, and automotive certifications. Mobile environments cannot safely support this level of mechanical work.

2. Internal Generator Repairs (Beyond Basic Maintenance)

What we can do: oil changes, filters, spark plugs, basic troubleshooting.
What we won’t do:

  • Carburetor tear-downs

  • Stator/rotor replacement

  • Internal electrical repairs

Onan and other generator manufacturers require these repairs be done in certified shop environments due to liability and workspace requirements.

🏚️ 3. Full Roof Replacements & Structural Rebuilds

Mobile techs can seal, inspect, and patch — but full roof membranes and structural repairs involve hours of labor, insurance processes, and large indoor workspaces.

A full roof job is simply not a mobile-safe repair.

❄️ 4. AC Compressor or Sealed-System Repairs

RV AC units aren’t like home systems — replacement is the industry standard.
If the compressor fails or the sealed system leaks, the unit must be replaced, not repaired.

↔️ 5. Major Slide-Out Rebuilds

Slide adjustments? Yes.
Slide alignments? Yes.
Complete mechanical rebuilds? No.

Big repairs like Schwintek rail replacement, slide floor rebuilds, or through-wall work require cabinetry removal, jacks, supporting structures, and hours of disassembly that aren’t practical mobile.

🛠️ 6. Fiberglass & Body Damage Repairs

Fiberglass cracking, delamination, and collision damage belong to RV body shops with specialized resins, tools, and climate-controlled curing environments.

🚽 7. Black Tank Replacements

We can clear clogs, replace gate valves, and diagnose tank odors.
But full tank replacement requires removing underbellies, frame supports, and sometimes slide rooms. Not mobile-safe.

🟧 Why This Matters: The Educational Takeaway

A great mobile RV tech isn’t someone who “works on everything.” It’s someone who knows:
✔ what can be done safely,
✔ what must go to a shop, and
✔ how to guide you to the right solution without wasting your time or money.

Being transparent protects you, your RV, and your warranty.

🟩 So What DOES MilTech RV Do?

Here’s where mobile service shines:

✔ Electrical troubleshooting
✔ 12V & battery diagnostics
✔ Plumbing & leak repairs
✔ Water heaters & furnaces
✔ RV refrigerators
✔ AC service & parts replacement
✔ Slide-out adjustments
✔ Roof & seal inspections
✔ Winterizing & de-winterizing
✔ Pre-purchase inspections
✔ Safety assessments
✔ Emergency on-site repairs

If it can be done right, safely, and professionally in your driveway or campsite, we bring the fix to you.
