Common Awning Problems

What Is Your Awning Doing — or Not Doing?

Similar symptoms can have very different causes. Start with what you’re seeing and we’ll work from there.

01

Won’t Extend

The awning does not move, moves only slightly, or stops under load.

02

Won’t Retract

The awning is stuck open, retracts unevenly, or will not close completely.

03

Moves Unevenly

One side leads, binds, twists, or the roller does not track correctly.

04

Damaged Arms

Bent, broken, loose, or storm-damaged arm assemblies can make the awning unsafe to operate.

05

Torn or Worn Fabric

Sun damage, tearing, separation, mildew, or age may make fabric replacement the best option.

06

Electrical Problems

Switches, wiring, low voltage, control modules or motor circuits may cause intermittent or no operation.

Diagnose Before Replacing Parts

A Dead Awning Motor Isn’t Always the Problem.

Low voltage, damaged wiring, switches, control modules, mechanical binding, damaged arms, alignment problems and fabric issues can all create similar symptoms.

We start with testing so you understand what failed and why before parts are replaced.

1. Diagnose
Test the power, controls and mechanical movement.
2. Explain
Review what is causing the problem and what repair options make sense.
3. Authorize
You approve additional repair work before we proceed.
4. Repair
Complete the authorized repair or safe-for-travel service.
Awning Fabric Replacement

Fabric Worn Out but the Hardware Still Good?

In many cases, awning fabric can be replaced without replacing the complete awning assembly. We can inspect the roller, arms and hardware to determine whether fabric-only replacement is appropriate.

  • Vinyl and fabric deterioration
  • Tears and separation
  • Weather and UV damage
  • Replacement fabric installation
Safe to Travel?

A Damaged Awning Can Become a Road Hazard.

If an awning arm, roller, fabric, or mounting point is badly damaged, the safest immediate repair may be to remove or secure the damaged components before the RV is moved.

MilTech RV can evaluate the condition and recommend whether the awning can be secured, partially removed, or should remain parked until additional repair is completed.

Customer-Supplied Parts & Fabric

You Can Supply Your Own Awning Fabric or Parts.

Customer-supplied awning fabric or replacement parts may be installed when the item is correct and compatible with the awning system.

MilTech RV cannot warranty customer-supplied parts or fabric. Additional labor may apply if the supplied item is incorrect, incomplete, damaged, or incompatible with the RV.
