Your RV's 12-volt system powers many essential components including lighting, water pumps, control boards, slide and leveling controls, furnace electronics, refrigerator controls and other equipment.

We can diagnose issues involving batteries, battery disconnects, DC distribution panels, fuses, grounds, wiring, low-voltage conditions and other problems that prevent 12V equipment from operating correctly.

Shore-Power and AC Electrical Diagnostics

The 120V system supplies power to RV receptacles and many major appliances when connected to campground shore power, a generator or certain inverter systems.

Diagnostic testing may include checking incoming voltage, electrical connections, breakers, GFCI protection, branch circuits and power delivery to affected appliances or equipment.

If your RV battery dies quickly, will not charge or shows unexpected voltage, the battery itself may not be the only problem.

We can evaluate battery voltage, charging voltage and related system operation to help identify problems involving the converter, charging circuit, battery connections, disconnect systems or other charging components.

Converter Troubleshooting

The converter normally changes incoming 120V AC power into 12V DC power and supports the RV's battery-charging system. A failed converter can cause weak batteries, low DC voltage or loss of 12V equipment.

Inverter Troubleshooting

RV inverter systems use battery power to supply AC electricity to selected appliances and outlets. Depending on the RV, diagnostics may involve input voltage, output power, fault codes, transfer operation, wiring or system controls.

RV Shore-Power Problems

Plugging into a campground pedestal does not automatically mean correct power is reaching every part of your RV.

When Shore Power Isn't Working Correctly

We can troubleshoot problems between the power source and the RV electrical system, including missing power, low voltage symptoms, breaker issues, power distribution problems and situations where only part of the RV has 120V power.

A tripped breaker or blown fuse is often a symptom rather than the root cause. Repeated failures may indicate an overloaded circuit, failed component, damaged connection, wiring issue or another electrical problem.

We can diagnose circuit protection problems, dead outlets, GFCI issues and electrical circuits that repeatedly lose power.

RV Electrical Service Pricing

Electrical troubleshooting is billed based on the time required to diagnose and repair the problem. Some electrical faults can be identified quickly, while intermittent or multi-system problems may require additional testing.

Mobile Service Call $75 Standard mobile service-call fee.
Diagnostic $150 First diagnostic hour.
Additional Labor $150/hr Additional diagnostic or repair labor.
Extended Travel $2/mi Applies outside our standard 30-mile service area.
Parts, materials and other applicable charges are additional. An electrical diagnostic identifies the condition found at the time of service and does not guarantee that unrelated or intermittent electrical problems will not occur later.

RV Electrical Repair FAQ

Do you diagnose both 12V and 120V RV electrical problems?

Yes. MilTech RV diagnoses common 12-volt DC and 120-volt AC electrical problems, including batteries, converters, inverters, shore-power circuits, fuses, breakers, outlets and related RV electrical equipment.

Why does my RV have no 12V power even though it is plugged into shore power?

Possible causes include a discharged battery, battery disconnect problem, blown fuse, converter issue, poor connection, grounding problem or other failure in the DC electrical system. Testing is needed to determine the actual cause.

Why isn't my RV battery charging while plugged in?

A battery that does not charge on shore power may have a battery problem, converter problem, blown fuse, poor cable connection, disconnect issue or another charging-system fault. Voltage testing helps determine where charging power is being lost.

Can you diagnose a bad RV converter?

Yes. Converter diagnostics can include checking AC input, DC output, battery-charging voltage, related fuses and system operation before recommending converter replacement.

Can you troubleshoot an RV inverter?

Yes, depending on the system and failure. We can evaluate common inverter problems involving battery input, output power, fault indications, controls and transfer operation.

Why do my RV breakers or fuses keep tripping?

Repeated trips or blown fuses may be caused by excessive electrical load, a failed appliance or component, damaged wiring, poor connections or another circuit fault. Repeatedly resetting a breaker or replacing a fuse without finding the cause is not recommended.

Do you work on electrical problems at RV parks and campgrounds?

Yes. MilTech RV is a mobile RV repair service. We come to your RV within our service area, including RV parks, resorts, campgrounds and customer locations where service access is permitted.

How much does an RV electrical diagnostic cost?

The standard mobile service call is $75 and the first diagnostic hour is $150. Additional diagnostic or repair labor is $150 per hour. Parts, materials and applicable travel charges are additional.

Do you replace electrical parts before diagnosing the problem?

Our normal approach is to test the system first whenever practical. Electrical symptoms can have several possible causes, so diagnosis can help avoid replacing a component that is not actually responsible for the problem.
