Why get an RV inspected before you buy? An RV can look clean and still have roof, moisture, electrical, plumbing, appliance, slide, leveling or safety concerns that are easy to miss during a normal walk-through. A professional inspection gives you documented information about the RV's condition before you sign the final paperwork.

Know the Difference

A Dealer Walk-Through Is Not an Independent Inspection

Both have value, but they serve different purposes. A walk-through teaches you how to use the RV. An independent inspection documents its accessible condition before you accept the purchase.

Choosing Your Inspection

Which Inspection Is Right for You?

The right inspection depends on the RV's size, age, complexity, condition and how much information you want before making the purchase. Here is the simplest way to choose.

Choose Essential Safety

Best for a smaller or simpler RV, a limited budget, or when your main concern is visible condition and important safety items.

Choose Elite Diagnostic

Best for an older, luxury, high-value, heavily modified or technically complex RV where deeper measurements and diagnostic information matter.

When Should You Consider Upgrading?

  • The RV is older or has an unknown history
  • You see staining, sealant repairs or signs of previous leaks
  • The RV has lithium batteries, solar or a large inverter system
  • It has multiple slides or hydraulic leveling
  • You are buying remotely without seeing the RV
  • The seller cannot provide maintenance records
  • The RV is a diesel pusher, luxury coach or high-value purchase
  • The RV has extensive aftermarket modifications

Inspection scope is adjusted to the RV type, installed equipment, available utilities and site conditions. We confirm the final scope before the appointment.

  • Photographs of inspected areas and documented concerns
  • Written observations and test results
  • Readings and diagnostic notes where applicable
  • Findings organized by priority
  • Life-safety, major, minor and maintenance items clearly identified

Independent Information for the Buyer

The inspection is designed to document the visible, accessible and operational condition of the RV at the time of inspection. You receive the findings so you can evaluate the RV, ask the seller or dealer informed questions, and make your own purchase decision.

When practical, we can also explain the report findings after delivery so you understand what deserves immediate attention and what may simply need monitoring or routine maintenance.

Life SafetyItems that may require immediate attention before the RV is used.
Major ConcernsPotentially costly, serious or purchase-impacting conditions.
Minor ConcernsRepairs and corrections that should be considered or discussed.
MaintenanceNormal service, monitoring and upkeep recommendations.

Report Delivery and Review

Report-delivery timing is confirmed when the inspection is scheduled. Larger or more complex RVs may require additional documentation time. When practical, we can review significant findings with you after delivery so you understand what was observed and which questions you may want to ask the seller or dealership.

Small Details Can Change the Buying Conversation

These generalized examples show the kinds of conditions we have documented during actual RV inspections. Customer and vehicle details are omitted for privacy.

Missing Exterior Sealant

An opening above a motorhome door had missing sealant, creating a potential path for water intrusion if left uncorrected.

Missing Life-Safety Equipment

A coach did not have the expected carbon-monoxide/LP detector installed, an important item to address before occupancy.

Aged Detector and Interior Staining

An older Class B had an over-age carbon-monoxide detector and staining above the rear doors that warranted follow-up.

What Happens When We Find a Concern?

We document the visible condition with photographs and plain-language observations, explain why it matters, and organize the finding as life safety, major, minor or maintenance. You decide how to use that information. MilTech RV does not negotiate the purchase or tell you whether to buy the RV.

How It Works

Inspect. Document. Report. Review.

1
Schedule

Choose the inspection level and confirm the RV location, year, make and model.

2
Prepare the RV

The RV should have access to shore power, water, LP and a charged battery so systems can be operated.

3
Inspect & Document

We perform the agreed inspection and document visible conditions, operating checks and findings.

4
Review the Report

You receive the digital report with photos and categorized findings to review before purchase.

Before the Appointment

What We Need to Perform a Thorough Inspection

The more systems that can be powered and operated, the more useful the inspection can be. Please coordinate access with the seller or dealership before the appointment.

Shore power, freshwater, LP and a usable house battery should be available whenever possible.

Full RV Access

Compartments, roof access, interior rooms, slides, appliances and exterior areas should be accessible.

Agreement & Payment

A signed inspection agreement and payment are required before the inspection is performed.

Short-notice inspections scheduled less than one week in advance may be subject to a $150 short-notice fee.

  • Your selected inspection tier
  • Known concerns, previous damage or modifications

Seller or Dealership Coordination

  • Permission to inspect the RV

  • Enough uninterrupted time for the selected inspection
Important Limitations

What an RV Inspection Does — and Does Not — Do

RV inspections are non-invasive. We inspect what is visible, accessible and operational at the time of the appointment. We do not remove walls, flooring, sealed panels or major components to search for hidden damage.

Conditions Can Affect Testing

Weather, seller access, unavailable utilities, discharged batteries, winterization, locked compartments or systems that cannot be operated may limit portions of the inspection.

Inspection Is Not a Warranty

The report documents observed conditions at the time of inspection. It is not a guarantee, appraisal or prediction of future component life.

Motorized RVs

Motorhome inspections include basic visible drivetrain observations where applicable, but they are not a complete automotive chassis, engine or transmission inspection.

Generators & Concealed Components

Generators may be operated when conditions allow, but internal generator diagnosis is not included. Finished walls, flooring, sealed panels and concealed components are not removed.

Policies at a Glance

Clear Expectations Before Inspection Day

We confirm the final scope, price and site requirements before the appointment so the buyer, seller and inspector know what to expect.

Agreement & Payment

A signed inspection agreement and payment are required before the inspection is performed.

Travel & Short Notice

Travel beyond the included 30-mile service radius may be charged at $2 per mile. Appointments scheduled less than one week ahead may include a $150 short-notice fee.

Weather & Access

Unsafe weather, unavailable utilities, locked areas or restricted access may limit testing or require portions of the inspection to be rescheduled.

Non-Invasive Scope

The inspection covers visible, accessible and operational areas. Walls, flooring, sealed panels and major components are not removed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pre-Purchase RV Inspection FAQ

How long does an RV inspection take?

The Advanced Buyer inspection typically takes about 3–5 hours. Inspection time varies with RV size, complexity, condition and access.

Can I attend the inspection?

Buyer access depends on the seller or dealership and the inspection location. We can explain documented findings after the inspection even if you are not present.

Do you inspect new RVs?

Yes. New RVs can also have assembly, adjustment, sealant, appliance or system concerns. A pre-delivery or pre-purchase inspection can document those conditions before final acceptance.

Do you inspect motorhomes as well as towables?

Yes. We inspect travel trailers, fifth wheels and motorhomes. On motorized RVs, the inspection includes basic visible drivetrain observations where applicable, but it is not a full automotive mechanical inspection.

Do you provide photographs?

Yes. The digital inspection report includes photographs of documented findings and relevant inspected areas.

Do you take things apart during the inspection?

No. The inspection is non-invasive. Major disassembly or removal of sealed panels and structural components is outside the inspection scope.
