Pick Me Up A/C Lift Gen 2 used by MilTech RV for rooftop RV air conditioner service and replacement
Rooftop air conditioners are one of the most common systems we work on in the RV industry. Diagnosing one is one thing. Replacing one is another. That is why MilTech RV added the Pick Me Up A/C Lift Gen 2 to our mobile service equipment.

A rooftop RV air conditioner is bulky, awkward, and heavy enough that getting it safely onto or off an RV roof can become one of the most difficult parts of the entire replacement process.

For a mobile RV technician, the challenge is even greater. We are not working inside a repair facility with forklifts, overhead cranes, or several technicians standing by.

We bring the repair equipment to the RV.

What Is the Pick Me Up A/C Lift Gen 2?

The Pick Me Up Gen 2 is a portable lifting system designed to help RV technicians move rooftop air conditioners and other heavy components up to and down from an RV roof.

According to the manufacturer, the Gen 2 weighs approximately 25 pounds and folds down to roughly 35.5 × 12 × 8.5 inches.

The system uses an aluminum structure, stainless-steel hardware, a powered winch, and a cordless-tool battery adapter.

Why that matters for a mobile technician:
We gain lifting capability without dedicating a large section of the service truck to a heavy construction-style material lift.

Why Does an RV Technician Need a Lift?

The hardest part of replacing a rooftop air conditioner is often not determining what failed. It is physically moving the replacement unit.

Without specialized lifting equipment, a technician may need another person, scaffolding, a large material lift, or some other method of getting a bulky A/C unit several feet off the ground and onto the RV roof.

For a mobile service company, that can turn a straightforward replacement into a scheduling and manpower problem.

Diagnose → Confirm Failure → Recommend Repair → Lift Replacement Unit → Install → Test

Our goal is to make that entire process as efficient and professional as possible.

Designed for Mobile RV Service

One of the biggest advantages of the Pick Me Up is portability.

Professional roofing and construction material lifts can weigh hundreds of pounds. That may make sense for a roofing crew, but it is less practical for a mobile RV repair truck carrying electrical tools, HVAC equipment, plumbing equipment, parts, inspection equipment, and other specialized tools.

At approximately 25 pounds, the Pick Me Up is much easier to integrate into a mobile service operation.

Using Our Existing DeWalt Battery System

MilTech RV already uses the DeWalt 20V MAX battery platform on the service truck.

The Pick Me Up Gen 2 can be used with a DeWalt battery through the appropriate conversion adapter. That allows us to use batteries and chargers we already carry rather than adding another cordless-tool battery platform to the truck.

Standardizing battery systems may sound like a small detail, but it matters when operating a mobile repair business.

The External Ladder Is Part of the System

The Pick Me Up is designed to work with an external ladder setup. That means the ladder itself becomes an important part of the lifting system.

MilTech RV already carries professional ladder equipment because roof access is required for A/C service, roof inspections, vent work, sealant repairs, antennas, and many other RV repairs.

Before any lift is performed, the ladder needs to be properly rated, positioned, stable, and compatible with the lifting system.

Important: A lifting device does not replace proper ladder setup, load control, technician judgment, or safe working practices. Ground conditions, wind, equipment weight, roof access, and the surrounding work area still need to be evaluated before lifting begins.

What This Means for Our Customers

The purpose of buying specialized equipment is not simply to own more tools.

It is about increasing what we can accomplish at your RV.

When we arrive for an air-conditioning problem, our first job is still diagnosis. We need to determine whether the problem is actually the rooftop unit or something else in the system.

That could include:

  • 120-volt power problems
  • Thermostat issues
  • Control-box failures
  • Capacitor problems
  • Freeze sensors
  • Wiring problems
  • Fan-motor issues
  • Compressor problems
  • Other electrical or HVAC-related failures

The Pick Me Up does not diagnose any of those problems.

What it does is give us another capability after the diagnosis has been completed and the rooftop unit has been determined to need replacement.

It Complements Our Existing HVAC Diagnostic Equipment

MilTech RV uses specialized diagnostic equipment to help determine what is actually wrong before recommending replacement.

Depending on the complaint, that may include electrical testing, HVAC control-system testing, thermal imaging, temperature measurements, and component-level diagnostics.

The Pick Me Up fills a completely different role.

Diagnostic Equipment → Identify the Failure
Pick Me Up A/C Lift → Help Complete the Replacement

Together, those capabilities allow us to provide a more complete rooftop A/C service.

Why We Invest in Specialized Equipment

One of the principles behind MilTech RV is simple:

Bring the right equipment to the RV.

Mobile RV service works best when the technician arrives prepared to diagnose the problem and, whenever practical, complete the repair on site.

That is why we continue investing in specialized equipment for:

  • Electrical diagnostics
  • Rooftop air-conditioning systems
  • Furnaces
  • Slides and leveling systems
  • Thermal imaging
  • Plumbing systems
  • RV holding-tank cleaning
  • RV inspections

Not every specialized tool comes off the truck every day.

But when a job requires it, having the right tool can mean the difference between identifying the problem and actually completing the repair.

Our Take on the Pick Me Up Gen 2

For a mobile RV technician, we believe the most valuable feature of the Pick Me Up is not its maximum lifting capacity.

It is independence.

It gives us a compact way to address one of the most awkward parts of rooftop A/C replacement without carrying a large construction lift or relying entirely on manpower.

As with every new piece of equipment we add, we will continue evaluating the Pick Me Up in actual field use. We want to know where it performs well, where its limitations are, and where it fits best into our service process.

Good RV service is not just about replacing parts.

It is about having the training, diagnostic process, equipment, and judgment to determine what actually needs to be repaired—and having the right tools available to complete the job professionally.
